Tell me about your unfinished car project so I won’t feel so bad about mine.

I’ve just been too busy to carve out time in the shop for a carb swap on my VW and wiring work on the Foxbody.

I bought a 99 ram 1500 with a broken transmission... 2 months ago

Finally got it in the air last night and pulled the drive shaft.

Probably another day or two I'll actually pull the starter, etc etc.

Doing it all on dirt with no real Trans Jack sucks big time.

I just bought a Jeep JK that already had over $60k invested. I spent another $7k on it this AM. I'm sure its entire life will be a project.

1990 Supra Turbo. had it since 1999.

I have finally been working on it again only to find the engine is trash.  Hope the non turbo motor in my 88 isn't bad. If it is, that's probably the end of the road for me.

God damn rodents built a nest on top of the motor when it was in storage. Piss and other shit seeped into the #6 cylinder.

01 Bullitt in dark highland green. Rebuilt the engine, suspension, brakes, steering, and exhaust but basically back to stock. It runs and drives like new.

Needs paint, interior, and a 5.0L coyote.

I’ll never do ball joints on jack stands again

Mine is a 1980 monza.

So far I stuffed in an aluminum gen 4 5.3 and mated a powerglide.  I fabbed a turbo log and finished the entire hot and cold side with a single Borg Warner s475.

The glide came out to get new clutches and a manual valve body and trans brake.

I built a hanger for two big ass fuel pumps and hung it under the car.

I hand built a glass front bumper and then got my C10 and it has sat since.

It needs the trans done and a nine inch and probably a cage.

Inherited a 51 chevy split window pickup. It was actually in beautiful shape. Looked great.  Completely useless vehicle. Couldn't even use it as a truck since it was so nice.

It always needed work. Always. Always something broke, needed adjustment, didn't work, or drained the battery, or didn't fit, or burned out, etc. . .

Sold the thing. Life is better.

They are never finished. Even if you think they are, you are wrong.  Batteries, tires, oil, fuel filters, hoses, belts, etc. all have an expiration date.

Here's my 73 mach1 rustbucket.  I've had it 20+yr.

Mechanically, just about everything is new or replaced.  Interior is original and in decent shape, not great.  Crate 351W, edlebrock intake, holley 4 barrel, underdrive pulleys, headers, rebuilt transmission with a shift kit, aluminum radiator with electric fans, total control coil over suspension, and redone brakes, bearings, fuel tank, steering gear, bushings, etc.  Sadly, the body is pretty far gone.  I had ordered a bunch of dynacorn sheet metal last year.  10 months later, it never shipped, so I just canceled it.  In order to do the body right, it will cost more than the car is worth.  I could buy a body in good shape for less.

So the plan for now is just drive it like it is and enjoy it.  I dont have to worry about babying it or putting the first, second or third scratches in it.  Just romp around and spin the tires.

My dad bought mine new and drove it til a valve let got at 225,000 and gave it to me to fix up.

Looks ok from 15’ away at night lol

I rebuilt the engine, new O2 sensors, new ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, shocks and struts, caster camber plates, rotors, mufflers in the garage of my old apartment lol.

I also have an 04 Competition orange Mach 1 I bought new. Spent about $10k repainting it to factory color (but better). So I follow through but the Bullitt will need a lot and I plan on doing it all at once. At least they make reproduction Bullitt seats now.

Here's one of them.  1963 Impala SS 327/4 speed that I bought from the original owner in 1985.  I tore it apart to repaint it in 1988 when I was a senior in high school and this is how it looks today.

I drug this rust free Wagoneer home maybe 10 years ago.  Got it running and drove it for a little bit.  The 360 had an endemic oil pressure problem and this was no exception.  Hindsight being 20/20 I should have just rebuilt the heads and got on with life, but I had this idea that my wife would like to drive it and fuel injection would be nice.  So I got about half way through installing a fresh TBI 350 and when it came time to mount the new radiator, all my motivation fizzled and it's been just sitting on jackstands since.

Almost bought a project car this past weekend 29 Ford tudor body chopped 4"  , front /rear end , new gas tank , new grill shell and stock frame . Dream is a bagged , chopped , channeled rat rod ( tastefully done , not weld everything from a garage sale onto it ) Decided against it ATM . Figured it would nickle and dime me ,

If he wants to know about my oldest project that would be the 66 Mustang I’ve had since I was 14. It’s in the same condition it was in when I left for college. I’m now in my 50s.

'84 Jeep CJ I6, 79k mile survivor, virtually no rust. In pieces for over two years as my son's interest has waxed and waned and my own obligations got in the way. Have most of the bits, including a good head and "NVH" block to build a 4.6 stroker for it.

Right now we're distracted by the semi-project car that he'll be driving to college - an 86k mile '04 Lincoln Town Car Ultimate in cherry cosmetic condition that I got cheap due to electrical gremlins. Finally solved those - turned out to be one single wire that had 8 distributed splices on it that had, well, as best I can describe it, it was rotted - and we're wrapping up backup camera install along with an Alpine double DIN radio to give him hands-free CarPlay, etc. Next we add ex-Mustang wheels with some good tires, rear aftermarket anti-sway bar, and rebuild the front end to take care of torn ball joint covers and sagging bushings. Then there's the plug/coil change and cam phaser replacement for the 4.6 that they all need. At that point, it should be GTG to get him through college, and we can get back to the Jeep.

I've got a 1968 Mercury Montego convertible. I pulled the 302 and finished a roller cammed 306 with fuel injection the first week of July 2020. A week later found out my wife was pregnant.  I finally got back to work on it in June. Transmission builder has the C4 done, but can't find a converter now. Once that is all sorted I have to have the new top installed.  Hopefully it will be together for the 2023 Power Tour.

I wanted one of those so bad when I was younger. There was one at the track made to be a sleeper with twin turbos that they could not get the suspension right and it would violently launch and pull hard right. I never got to see it make a full pass.

Waiting for the credit card to cool off before buying a bellhousing, headers, and fuel pump so I can at least drive it.

Soon as the new engine is in the oem T-5 life span is seriously in jeopardy, so I can look forward to coughing up some cash for a TKX.

Another Cressida owner here.
On it's 10th level of hop-up.
Cooked a piston at the Texas mile, and after pulling the engine, found the flex plate had stress cracks all through it, so now getting a sequential 6-speed close ratio HPI trans from Japan.
Trans was originally made for an S15 Silvia, so lots of work to convert it to fit a Toyota. All that machine work is now done, just needs reassembly.
Now it will have a 7 lb billet flywheel with twin bronze disks.
Also going to 50mm ITBs this time around. All the linkage is done, manifold pieces cut, just needs welding.

Missing my mustang hunting sessions on Friday nights

Every 'hobby car' is a project car, IMO.

Switching to ZR1 wing and maybe fender vents, needs CAI and larger throttle body.  Will probably upgrade exhaust at some point, but want to keep the NPP valves for stealth.  DSC swap for suspension control, and if I can ever find or make them, a replacement set of fender flares to replace the ones I had to take off to make room for the splitter winglets.

1966 Yenko Stinger #YS100, of 100 built then. I'm 3rd owner, and have owned since 1987. (When they were cheap, and purists didn't want an old racecar). This car has a racing pedigree from '66 thru '72, beating Porsches and Corvettes. Whenever I decide to sell it, I already have a buyer for it. He owns others, and knows this one won't be cheap. I'm planning on getting motivated before I die. ?? A couple pics of then, and now. Attachment Attached File
